The United States Coast Guard Auxiliary is the uniformed civilian component of the
Coast Guard established by Congress in 1939 to assist the Coast Guard in promoting
boating safety.  Today the Auxiliary has nearly 33,000 members, men and women from
all walks of life who receive special training so they may be an integral part of the Coast
         Guard forces.

Coast Guard Auxiliary members are active on the waterways and  in classrooms in

over 2,000 cities, and cities and towns across the nation.  Auxiliary members annually save

almost 500 lives.  Assist some 15,000 boaters in distress, conduct more than 150,000

courtesy vessel examinations of recreational vessels, and teach over 500,000 students

in  boating and water safety.  The results of these efforts save you, the tax payers

hundreds of millions of dollars every year.
